Clouds instead of sun? Our tips that don't require sunshine!
02.04.2026 | 5 min.
What do we do when the sun takes a break? We can think of quite a few things! You can find some suggestions in the following blog post.
For the spectacular natural landscape here in the Arlberg to remain so beautifully colorful, diverse, and wonderful, it needs rain. So when the sun hides behind the clouds and raindrops rhythmically patter down on St. Anton in Tyrol, the meadows, forests, and mountains rejoice. But even for us at the Hotel zur Pfeffermühle, rainy days are by no means a reason for boredom—quite the opposite! Bad-weather days have their own special charm in the Arlberg; after all, they finally give you time to try out a different kind of activity, expand your knowledge, or make full use of the hotel’s relaxing indoor facilities. We’ll tell you what you absolutely shouldn’t miss in St. Anton am Arlberg when the weather’s bad:
If you’re looking for action
To really burn off some energy here in the Arlberg, you don’t necessarily need to climb the highest mountain. There are plenty of indoor options in the valley as well: Right next to the St. Anton train station—and just a stone’s throw from our Pfeffermühle—the St. Anton Sports Center awaits action fans of all ages. From tennis and squash courts to a bowling alley and table tennis tables, all the way to a climbing gym with a total of 100 indoor and outdoor routes—at arl.rock, sports, fun, and excitement are on the agenda. For anyone who loves to jump for joy, the trampoline park in St. Anton, Tyrol, is the perfect spot. Arl.park, with its 14 trampoline fields, Airtrack, and Bagjump, is also just a few minutes away from our Hotel zur Pfeffermühle. Once you’ve gotten a taste for it, there’s also the FlipLap Trampoline Hall in Innsbruck. With 1,600 square meters, it’s the most modern trampoline, parkour, and freestyle park in Western Austria.
Are you more of a brain teaser type? Then you should take on the tricky puzzles in the Escape Room at Arlberg Escapes. You have 60 minutes to master the adventure game and escape the room full of brain teasers.
When it’s time to take a dip in the refreshing water
Would you like to simply unwind and completely clear your head during your vacation in the Arlberg? At Arlberg Wellcom St. Anton, nothing could be easier. Whether in the heated outdoor sports pool, the indoor pool with its revitalizing current pool, on the slide, or in the children’s pool—every family member will find their favorite spot. Even more deep relaxation is guaranteed by the Kelo sauna, Finnish sauna, sanarium, saltwater steam bath, herbal sauna, and various massage options. In winter, the area also offers opportunities for ice skating and curling, a traditional sport in the Alpine region.
The Aqua Dome Längenfeld wellness oasis in the Ötztal valley and Alpamare Pfäffikon—Switzerland’s largest water park—are also just one or two hours away by car.
If you’re in the mood for a bit of culture
A sun-soaked break in St. Anton in Tyrol also offers the perfect opportunity to get to know the “cradle of alpine skiing” even better. The ideal place for this is the Ski and Local History Museum in St. Anton am Arlberg. It’s not just a place of history and encounters, but also of culinary delights—though you should really see that for yourself! By the way, a visit to the museum can be perfectly combined with a stroll through the town center and a shopping spree at the well-stocked fashion and sports stores.
In fact, Tyrol has a wealth of museums worth visiting, covering a wide variety of topics: While lovers of sparkling crystals will find the perfect destination at the Swarovski Crystal Worlds in Wattens, we highly recommend “007 Elements” in Sölden—where scenes for “Spectre” were actually filmed—to James Bond fans. The largest silver mine of the late Middle Ages, meanwhile, can be marveled at in Schwaz, and in Jenbach, Tratzberg Castle awaits with a virtual reality tour.
In Dornbirn, Vorarlberg, explorers of all ages can experience “wow” moments and learn fascinating facts about people, nature, and technology at “inatura,” or discover the Rolls-Royce Museum. If you’re looking to go a bit higher, the Zeppelin Museum in Friedrichshafen—about 1 hour and 30 minutes away—might be just the thing for you. There is a wide selection of museums near our Pfeffermühle—we’d be happy to give you personalized advice at the front desk.
When you just want to relax
When the weather is bad, our guests naturally love to snuggle up in their rooms or in the hotel’s own Auszeit Spa with its sauna area and relaxation zone. No wonder—what could be cozier than simply putting your feet up and enjoying the moment without even having to leave the hotel? A leisurely breakfast until 11 a.m., a delicious afternoon snack, a good book, or an exciting board game with your loved ones round out a cozy rainy day here at our hotel.
Our top feel-good tip: Just let us know at the front desk, and we’ll arrange an in-room sports massage for you. This way, you can make the most of the rainy hours and be loose and relaxed for all the adventures still waiting for you in and around St. Anton am Arlberg.
