The "Pfeffermühle" in private: What love has to do with our history

What once began as a tavern has since become a cozy hotel in St. Anton am Arlberg. The fact that we, as a family, are now able to run a four-star hotel in Tyrol is ultimately thanks to a fateful encounter. But let’s start our story from the very beginning.

When love came into play in St. Anton in Tyrol

As early as the mid-1970s, happy guests could be found at the Pfeffermühle: Back then, Herbert Klimmer took over the inn on the Arlberg, kept the unique name, and, together with his kitchen team, provided culinary delights of the highest quality. A formula that resonated and delighted gourmets, connoisseurs, and fans of traditional cuisine alike.

But a ski trip would ultimately change everything: When Herbert met Daniela and love came into play, they decided on more than just a future together. It quickly became clear to them that they also wanted “more” professionally. Together, they decided to offer guests in their beloved St. Anton in Tyrol more than just culinary moments of joy, and so they opened the Hotel zur Pfeffermühle in 1992. Since then, our hotel in the Arlberg has offered you a vacation experience from the moment you arrive until the moment you leave.

One team, one family, and many moments of joy

What started as 15 rooms has now grown to 26, and a cozy wellness area has been added. Our hotel team has also grown to around 20 members. In addition to many employees who grew up in the Arlberg region and know our spectacular natural landscape inside and out, we are also supported by staff from up to five different countries. Many of them have been with us and have been part of the hotel’s ongoing development for years. This makes it clear: for us as a team and also for us as a family, the Pfeffermühle is a place of togetherness.

All roads lead to the Pfeffermühle on the Arlberg

The fact that the hospitality gene has been passed down from generation to generation in the Klimmer family is evident in the fact that Lisa and Julia, the daughters of Daniela and Herbert, have long since joined the hotel business. St. Anton am Arlberg in general, and the Hotel zur Pfeffermühle in particular, exude a magical allure that our Lisa knows all too well: after all, she studied and worked in Munich for several years before her longing for the mountains and the family business became too strong. So she finally made the decision to return to the Pfeffermühle and came back to the Arlberg.

Although much has changed in recent years, one thing has remained the same: the high standards we set for ourselves as the Pfeffermühle team. Whether in its early days as a tavern or today as a wellness hotel on the Arlberg—the Pfeffermühle in St. Anton am Arlberg is a place full of moments of happiness, and that is what we want to convey to you as our guest!
